Labour’s shadow equalities minister Gloria De Piero holds Ashfield seat
Labour’s shadow equalities minister Gloria De Piero has retained her seat in Ashfield with a strong majority.
Ms De Piero faced a challenge fromĀ former Tory consultant Mike Buchanan, the leader of the āJustice for Men and Boys (And the Women Who Love Them)ā party ā who says he aims to āmake feminism a dirty wordā.
Mr Buchanan won 153 votes, compared to Ms De Piero’s 19,448.
The shadow minister for women and equalities has written for PinkNews on a number of issues including the Gender Recognition Act, the need for Britain to stay in the ECHR and strongly campaigned for allowing couples in civil partnerships to convert quicker.
Ms De Piero’s ConservativeĀ counterpart, equalities ministerĀ Nicky MorganĀ was alsoĀ re-elected an MP in Loughborough, despite fears she would lose her seat to Labour.
