Daniel Radcliffe ‘honoured’ to be bottom of the year

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe has delivered an acceptance speech after picking up the title of ‘Rear of the Year’.

The actor left voters spellbound in the annual contest earlier this month – with his posterior winning out over Jamie Dornan of Fifty Shades of Grey, who came second despite his rear end getting much more screen time.

Andy Murray – who due to camera angles in tennis spends most of his time presenting his bottom to TV audiences – rounded out the top three.

Speaking to E! Online, he joked: “I’ve been campaigning for years.”

Explaining the contest, he said: “It’s a thing we do it in England. You don’t do it in America, because I was going to say, if you don’t do it here in America, maybe my awards counts kind of globally.

Delivering an acceptance speech, he said: “Thank you to everyone who voted for me for Rear of the Year. It’s a very prestigious honour. I promise to get it out a lot more in the future.”

The contest noted: “The Harry Potter child star has long-since matured into manhood with stage and screen roles transforming him into something of a sex symbol – baring all in the London and New York stage productions of ‘Equus’.”

Radcliffe bared all again for gay sex scenes in the 2013 film Kill Your Darlings, in which he plays poet Allen Ginsberg.

He said at the time that he had to portray that gay sex as “really f**king painful”.

He said: “I don’t think there’s any difference between how one falls in love. People express love differently, person to person, but it’s not gender or sexuality related. The only difference it made was obviously the actual sex scene, of course…

“I was talked through it by the director. He would be telling me what I would be feeling in each take. Basically, gay sex, especially for the first time, is really f**king painful. And [Krokidas] said that he had never seen that portrayed accurately on film before. He wanted it to look like an authentic loss of virginity.”

A strong supporter of LGBT rights, Radcliffe joked last year of top Google searches for him: “Daniel Radcliffe alcoholic. Daniel Radcliffe gay. Daniel Radcliffe girlfriend.”

“I’m pleased my girlfriend [now] comes up before alcoholic or gay.

“When I first did that, I got really annoyed for about half a minute, until I tried a few other people’s names and I found out [gay] comes up after almost everyone if they’re a man, and even some women – Florence Welch had it, and I was like, really?

“If people are speculating about your sexuality, then you’re doing OK.”
