A third of Trump supporters want to ban gays from the US as well as Muslims

A third of Donald Trump supporters want to ban gays from entering the United States as well as Muslims.

The news comes from a Public Policy Polling survey in South Carolina ā€“ following Mr Trumpā€™s controversial pledge to ban Muslims from entering the US.

The survey found that while the vast majority of Trump supporters backed his pledge on the issue, 31% want it to go even further ā€“ backing a ban on homosexuals entering the United States as well.

The polling found disproportionate support for a ban on gays among Mr Trumpā€™s supporters ā€“ with just 17% of Ted Cruz supporters backing a ban in second place, despite Cruzā€™ extreme anti-LGBT stances.

It comes amid concern about Mr Trumpā€™s appeal to far-right voters, with his supporters also backing a proposal to shut down all Mosques by 40% to 36%. A third of Trump supporters want Islam to be criminalised entirely.

However, the poll sample is quite small ā€“ with just 897 Republicans surveyed.

Elsewhere this week, Donald Trump declined to rule out a conspiracy theory that conservative Supreme Court justice Antonin Scalia was secretly murdered by liberals, after he died from a suspected heart attack.

Speaking to a right-wing radio host, Mr Trump appeared to pander to the hostā€™s theory that Justice Scalia was murdered.

Mr Trump said: ā€œIā€™m hearing itā€™s a big topic, the questionā€¦ itā€™s a horrible topic.

ā€œThey say they found a pillow on his face. Itā€™s a pretty unusual place to find a pillow.ā€

Murderers, of course, are renowned for leaving clues and murder weapons in places where they can be identified by right-wing conspiracy theorists.
