Gay couple ‘overjoyed’ to receive surprise wedding message from Jeremy Corbyn (VIDEO)
The leader wished the pair luck on their big day.
Casper ter Kuile and his husband, musician Sean Lair, married last week, in a joyous ceremony surrounded by friends and family in Boston.
However, the day after their wedding, the pair received an extra surprise – a congratulatory message from Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, who wished them both a happy marriage and long life together.
Casper found the video as he sorted through messages from friends and family who’d sent pictures from the wedding on WhatsApp.
At first he thought it was just a picture of Mr Corbyn – until he downloaded it.
The image actually turned out to be a heartwarming message from the leader of the opposition.
“Oh my God, I did not expect that. It was a really great way to round off the celebration,” the happy groom told BuzzFeed News.
“Hi, Casper and Sean!” Corbyn says in the video.
“Many congratulations on getting married in Boston, Massachusetts – fantastic.
“Remember the great liberal traditions of Massachusetts that stood up against the reactionaries all across the USA.
“Well done! Have a great life and have a wonderful day.”
A Labour supporter – who voted for Corbyn in last year’s leadership contest – Casper says he and his partner were “thrilled” about the video and loved the fact that he made the historical comparison.
Casper said the video showed Corbyn was a nice guy – saying they loved the leader telling them to “have a great life”.
“From everyone who engages with him, you really get a sense of the man,” he said.
“He’s not one of those consummate politicians and it’s just a nice sense of who he really is.”
Speaking to PinkNews previously, Mr Corbyn pledged to take a tough approach on global LGBT rights.
