Tien-chu picked up the ā€˜Best Actor in a Miniseries or Television Film Awardā€™, but it was his post-ceremony rant that made headlines.

Asked why he had rejected work in the past by reporters backstage, the actor claimed it was because he refused to ā€œsupport homosexualityā€.

ā€œIā€™ll be open about it,ā€ he said. ā€œI will not support homosexuality because itā€™s going to lead to the end of humanity.ā€

The staunch Christian also believes the Second Coming is imminent, because society is ā€œall messed upā€, according to Shanghaiist.

Bizarrely, Tien-chu later claimed that he does ā€œnot hate gay people, I love them, I have compassion for them,ā€ despite adding that he believes homosexuality is ā€œwrongā€.

ā€œThis is why Iā€™ve said no to so many gay productions that approached me for acting,ā€ he added.

ā€œI will not betray my faith just for a bit of money. Homosexuality is a huge curse to the future generation.ā€

Earlier this year, the Taiwanese made a bold step today by electing Tsai Ing-wen of the Democratic Progressive Party as President.

The new leader is a strong advocate for LGBT rights and same-sex marriage ā€“ with two thirds of Taiwanese people agreeing with her.
