Donald Trump will be thrown off Twitter if ex-CIA agent Valerie Plame Wilson’s fundraising drive succeeds

A former CIA secret agent is trying to kick Donald Trump off Twitter for good.

Valerie Plame Wilson, whose outing as a covert officer was the subject of the 2010 film Fair Game, has launched a $1 billion GoFundMe campaign to take over Twitter.

The former CIA operations officer, who was played by Naomi Watts in the hit film, said simply that “if Twitter executives won’t shut down Trump’s violence and hate, then it’s up to us.”

As Wilson points out, Trump has used the social media platform to promote white supremacists and fuel hate against minorities for years, even before he became President.

Through Twitter, the leader of the free world has announced a ban on trans people serving in the US military, tweeted a video of himself “body slamming” CNN and blocked LGBT groups and activists.

He also pointedly avoided marking Pride Month on the platform, where he has more than 36 million followers.

And of course, earlier this month he seemed on the precipice of starting a nuclear war through his inflammatory posts.

Wilson’s GoFundMe page has attracted more than $5,000 in donations to shut down what she called Trump’s “horrible” and “dangerous” account.

“His tweets damage the country and put people in harm’s way,” she explained.

“It’s time to shut him down.

“The bad news is Twitter has ignored growing calls to enforce their own community standards and delete Trump’s account. The good news is we can make that decision for them.”

She admitted that $1 billion was a large amount, but said it was “a small price to pay to take away Trump’s most powerful megaphone and prevent a horrific nuclear war.”

Wilson said that though it was not yet possible to take away the President’s ability to order a nuclear attack whenever he wants, this campaign could strip him of another method of attack.

“Trump has fully weaponised Twitter: it’s not something that just happens ‘online,’ she said.

“Time and again his use of this huge global platform has major consequences in the real world.

“With a single tweet, he can damage international relationships and alliances, spread fake news like a virus, embolden white supremacists to march in the streets, or send stock markets crashing or soaring.”

If the fundraising drive fails to reach its $1 billion goal, Wilson plans to buy “a significant stake” in Twitter.

If this proves impossible, the former agent intends to donate the balance of proceeds to Global Zero, a non-profit group which aims to help prevent nuclear war.
