Jane Lynch: ‘I can’t tell anyone else how to come out as gay’
Glee star Jane says she would never give anyone advice on how to come out as gay.
The actress, 51, appears on the cover of this month’s Advocate magazine and is one of Hollywood’s most high-profile LGBT people.
She said: “Everyone has their own journey and I wouldn’t condescend to tell anybody how to go about theirs except to say, ‘Trust your life and trust where you are right now’.
“Everybody’s going to have their own story, and we have to leave it up to them to decide how and when they’re going to come out. I would never give anybody advice that way. It’s so personal. ”
Lynch married her wife, psychologist Lara Embry, in Massachusetts last year. The couple are raising two daughters, Haden and Chase.
The issue of openly gay actors has been a hot topic recently, with suggestions that gay stars are overlooked for romantic heterosexual roles.
But Lynch said: “If anything, I think people respect me for not hiding. But what it comes down to is we’re all just people. At the end of the day, I happen to go home to a woman. In Hollywood, all that matters is do you do your job and do it well.”
