Sarah Paulson ‘loves’ Holland Taylor, but hates being labelled
The actress says she refuses to be defined by her sexuality.
Actress Sarah Paulson – currently starring as prosecutor Marcia Clark in The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story – had some powerful things to say about her sexuality in a recent interview.
The American Horror Story stalwart opened up about her long rumoured relationship with fellow actress Holland Taylor – however, she declined to label her sexuality, saying she does not want be “skewered” by either community.
“If my life choices had to be predicated based on what was expected of me from a community on either side, that’s going to make me feel really straitjacketed, and I don’t want to feel that,” she told New York Times.
“What I can say absolutely is that I am in love, and that person happens to be Holland Taylor.”
The women first met at a dinner party about a decade ago, when Paulson was dating actress Cherry Jones.
Nevertheless, she thought that Taylor was “probably the most exquisitely beautiful woman I’d ever seen.”
After her seven-year relationship with Jones ended, Paulson and Taylor crossed paths once again whilst working for a charity.
They followed each other on Twitter, before agreeing to go for dinner. Over a year later, the pair are still together.
Taylor has described the relationship as “the most wonderful, extraordinary thing that could have ever possibly happened in my life.”
In December, the 72 year-old actress was also asked why it had taken her such a long time to come out as gay.
“I haven’t come out because I am out,” she replied. “I live out.”
“I feel at this point in the conversation it feels kind of awkward. Now I feel very very shy of it.
“I’ve been really wrestling with this lately because most of my relationships have been with women and I don’t like talking about them because I don’t like talking about the politics of it all.
“I think we’re ridiculous in this country (the US) about it. Ridiculous.”
Taylor has starred in a series of plays, films and TV shows, but is probably best known globally for her role as Charlie Sheen’s selfish mother on sitcom Two and a Half Men.
