What is pansexuality? RuPaul’s Drag Race star Courtney Act explains

Courtney Act, who identifies as genderfluid

Celebrity Big Brother winner Courtney Act says “a vagina or a penis” wouldn’t stop her falling in love with someone.

The gender-fluid drag queen spoke exclusively to PinkNews about being pansexual.

She said: “I identify as pansexual – I identify as many things, and many of them contradict.

“I don’t identify as straight – not since I was 15, but that’s just because I was unaware.

“It sort of falls under the umbrella of bisexuality.

“It means that you are attracted to people regardless of their gender – or are attracted to many genders, depending on how you look at it.

“I just like to think that I’m attracted to who I’m attracted to, and I’m not attracted to who I’m not attracted to.

“If someone happens to have a vagina or a penis, I’m not going to let that count out me falling in love with somebody just because of their body parts.”

Act also opened up to PinkNews about identifying as gender-fluid, which she says allowed her to be “much more comfortable” than she had ever felt in her own skin.

She said: “I also identify as gender-fluid, which means I’m not going to conform to some societal expectation of being a man or being a woman, and that I’m just going to be me – dress how I want to dress, act how I want to act.

“It’s funny because ever since I started identifying as gender-fluid it didn’t actually change anything about how I looked on the outside, it actually just changed how I felt on the inside.”

The drag superstar spoke to PinkNews ahead of her Under The Covers tour, and also gave her advice to anyone who may be unsure about their gender identity or sexuality.

“I think that everyone should question their gender and their sexuality, and just dig into it and see what it means and don’t be afraid of the answer,” Act said.

“And don’t be afraid to kiss a few frogs.”

Answering PinkNews readers’ questions at The Glory in London, Act revealed she has fallen in love twice.

She said: “I’ve had two boyfriends who I’ve definitely been in love with.

“You go into it expecting it to be this Hollywood movie style of love, and then you get in there and you realise that probably is make believe.

“And the expectation that love should be like that is probably something that makes you feel let down and disgruntled ultimately.

“Connecting with somebody and having that special feeling – even though everything is not perfect – you have enough of that connection, that all of a sudden you realise ‘I love this person.’”
