Gal Gadot praises 5-year old boy’s Wonder Woman backpack

Gal Gadot, who plays Wonder Woman in the DC Extended Universe’s films, has given a five-year old boy her seal of approvable for wearing a Wonder Woman backpack to school.

The Israeli actor took to Twitter to praise the boy, after his mum wrote an article on parenting website Romper about her son Isaac’s choice of rucksack.

In the piece, mother Katie Alicea commends her son for “busting gender stereotypes,” but admits that she is worried he will be bullied by classmates when he starts school in a few weeks.

Alicea writes about how she took her son shopping to get a new backpack for his first day at school.

She explains: “I’ll be honest, my first response to him [choosing the Wonder Woman rucksack was, “Are you sure?” Without skipping a beat, he replied, ‘yes, I looked at all of them and I love superheroes the MOST and this Wonder Woman backpack is my favorite! It has a CROWN, Mom! IT’S PERFECT!'”

However, by the end of the article, Alicea writes: “It hasn’t been easy for Isaac, but he has been looking forward to being back in school. It crushes my heart to imagine kids making fun of him, but as much as I want to protect Isaac from the world, I want to confidently release him into it even more.

“The truth is, if I start to worry about what the world thinks, Isaac will start to worry too and I don’t want that. Isaac is a world-changer and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for the coolest kid I know.”

Gadot posted a screenshot of the article on Twitter, writing: “Just read this article about breaking gender stereotypes by Katie Alicea. Such an important topic and something I believe in so strongly. I hope Issac wore the crown and his WW backpack proudly to school. ‍♀️ #WonderBoy.”

In the article, Alicea also explained that her and her husband Tony had raised their two sons – Isaac and his three-year old brother – in an environment where they are encouraged to pursue their interests, regardless of gender stereotypes.

Alicea said she was “happy to know” their parenting efforts had worked, and that Isaac doesn’t perceive Wonder Woman as an “inferior or weaker superhero” just because she’s a woman.

She says Isaac enjoys dressings up as a princess sometimes, but that he also likes dressing up as Batman.

The mum added that the family had recently moved to Florida from North Carolina, meaning Isaac has had to make new friends.
