Cardi B officiated a beautiful same-sex wedding with help from That’s So Raven star Raven-Symoné

Cardi B officiates a same-sex couple's wedding in her Messenger series 'Cardi Tries __'

Cardi B gave one queer couple a wedding they’ll never forget after she officiated their beautiful ceremony with some help from LGBT+ actor Raven-Symoné.

The rap star teamed up with That’s So Raven star Raven-Symoné in the latest episode of her Messenger’s digital series Cardi Tries __. The show follows the “WAP” rapper as she takes on different challenges each week from rhythmic gymnastics to ranching.

In the new episode, the duo helped bride-to-be Brandi surprise her fiancée Shannon with a full wedding, and Cardi joked Shannon could react by saying: “I don’t wanna get married here”.

Raven-Symoné shared the event was timed to coincide with National Coming Out Day (11 October). The Cheetah Girls actor said that coming out is a “layered journey for many people in the LGBTQ+ community”.

“Being a part of a same-sex marriage I think is important so people see that, you know, there are differences obviously, but also there’s similarities,” she explained.

Shannon initially only thought that she and Brandi were at the venue for their engagement party, but Brandi revealed she had orchestrated an entire surprise wedding.

But Shannon still didn’t know that Cardi B and Raven-Symoné were behind the scenes helping Brandi to create the couple’s dream day. Throughout the episode, the rapper and actor help Brandi make key decisions about her special day from what dress to wear to the decor for the venue.

During the episode, Brandi revealed that her mother wouldn’t be attending her wedding as “she does not agree with the lifestyle” but “did send me a message just wishing me well”. The bride-to-be became visibly emotional about her missing mother as she was being fitted for her wedding dress.

“You always want those moments where you and your mom get to do this together and pick those moments together,” Brandi shared. “I love her, I have no ill feelings about her not being here. I know she wishes me well so…”

Cardi admitted her mother had a “tough time in the beginning” when her sister started dating another woman but said she came around. She added: “I think she loves my sister’s girlfriend more than she loves us.”

But Raven-Symoné, who married Miranda Maday in a surprise ceremony in 2020, said “sometimes parents don’t come around” so it’s “important to have some type of foundation”. She added that Brandi could “lean on” Shannon’s supportive family members.

Right before the ceremony, Cardi B admitted to Raven-Symoné that she was “nervous” to officiate the wedding.

The stunning bridges walked down the aisle, and Cardi B made her grand entrance as officiant to gasps and cheers from Shannon.

“When Shannon saw Cardi B, I knew she was going to freak out,” Brandi said.

Shannon was similarly bowled over after she found out that Raven-Symoné was the ring bearer for their ceremony.

“That was epic,” Raven-Symoné said after the ceremony. “I mean who gets to say that Cardi B officiated their wedding – Brandi and Shannon do.”

“And Raven,” Cardi added.

Afterwards, Cardi, who is already married to Offset, shared she wanted a “wedding wedding” now, and Raven-Symoné said she would officiate it.
