Drag Race UK’s Dakota Schiffer explains stunning Pokémon inspired runway

After RuPaul’s Drag Race UK’s fourth season left fans gagging with what was (maybe) the most chaotic premiere for a UK series to date, episode two showed no signs that there will be any less drama, chaos, confusion or madness in the weeks to come.

Oh, and it also threw Pokémon into the mix, just because.

As well as second episode’s girl group challenge (normally seen later in a season), the Neon Nights runway theme gave us everything we could have asked for and more.

We saw a devil complete with ostrich feathers (fun combo), a Naomi Campbell inspired litter picker (come through hi-viz) and an ancient ‘mushroom deity’ (she’s a fun guy).

But one of the most eye-catching was worn by Dakota Schiffer, which was inspired by the Pokémon character Elesa.

“I am giving you Pokémon gym leader realness”, Dakota said in her voiceover as she walked the runway, “mixed with a little bit of Balenciaga”.

“Neon is not a colour palette Dakota Schiffer usually works in, but I also really wanted to bring my love of video games, and I thought this was the perfect category to do so.”

It wasn’t just fans of the show who loved the look, it also caught the attention of the official Pokémon account.

Fans of both Drag Race and putting fictional animals inside magic balls went wild for Dakota’s neon look.

But despite the love, Dakota sadly confirmed she’s yet to be signed up to work with the gaming franchise yet, using a video of YouTuber Tana Mongeau to highlight her disappointment.

Keep slaying the runway, Dakota, and we’re sure that sponsorship deal will be with you in no time.
