Anti-Obama billboard condemned as racist and homophobic
A billboard poster of President Obama which depicts him as a gay man, a Mexican bandit, a gangster and a suicide bomber has been accused of racism and homophobia.
The poster was put up in Grand Junction, Colorado, and was designed by artist Paul Snover, who has refused to say who commissioned the work.
It has the headline “Vote DemocRAT” and shows four cartoon versions of the president gambling with the military and the US Constitution.
The version of Mr Obama as a gay man lives up to stereotypes, with a gold earring and tight purple top.
Both Democrats and Republicans have attacked the billboard.
Mesa County Democrat chairwoman Martelle Daniels said: “It’s beyond disrespectful. You would like to think that we all would show respect for our commander-in-chief, but this is just beyond that. It’s racist, it’s homophobic, and it’s really cowardly.”
Chuck Pabst, the chairman of the local Republican Party, told the Grand Junction Sentinel: “It’s reprehensible and disrespectful, and that’s not what any honorable person would put forth. To ridicule somebody in this manner is juvenile.”
Local reports say that the parking lot where the billboard is has been packed with people trying to get a closer look at it.
