Ellen Degeneres made George W Bush seem almost human (VIDEO)
During a rare media appearance on the Ellen Show, former US President George W Bush appeared almost human.
In the interview, the 43rd US President joked that he was aware that he failed to correctly manoeuvre a plastic poncho at the inauguration of President Trump.
He also spoke of his friendship with Michelle Obama, and warned that Putin would āpush and push until somebody stands up to himā.
The 70-year-old also danced with Ellen on the show, which aired on Thursday.
The former President appeared on the show to promote his new art book titled āPortraits of Courage: A Commander In Chiefās Tribute to Americaās Warriorsā.
Bush told Ellen of his friendship with Michelle Obama: āThat surprised everybody, thatās whatās so weird about society today, that people on opposite sides of the political spectrum could actually like each other.
āBut youāre closer to her than Barack?ā
āWell letās put it this way ā heās never given me a hug that way.ā
DeGeneres later presented Bush with a plastic poncho with the words āThis End Upā scrawled in huge letters on the front.
āItās genetics!ā the former president said when presented with a photo of himself struggling with the poncho, followed by one of his mother also struggling with a similar garment.
But on a more serious note, Bush spoke of the current political climate, saying: āI think this isnāt the first time our nationās ever been divided.
āI remember what it was like when I got out of college. There was a Vietnam War and a draft, there were major race riots, there were political assassinations, the President was nearly impeached and a lot of people thought the country was going down the tubes. And it turns out weāre too strong to go down the tubes. And so Iām very optimistic.ā
Despite saying that he wanted to remain āoff the stageā in terms of politics, he did weigh in on the need for a āfree and independent pressā saying the White Houseās relationship with the media is āsymbioticā.
But he did add: āDonāt ask me to spell itā, joking that heād dropped in āa big wordā.
āI used to tell some, you know, a lot of these tyrants when I would visit with them as president that they needed to have a free press,ā he continued.
āAnd I would point to our country as an example where, you know, power doesnāt make you immune to criticism or to corruption investigations and so, Iām a big believer in the free press just like Iām a big believer in free religion.
āYou can worship or not worship and youāre equally American. It doesnāt matter how you worship or who you worship.ā
Bush added that he struggled with his relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying that he had mocked his dog, Barney, a Scottish Terrier.
During a rare media appearance on the Ellen Show, former US President George W Bush appeared almost human.
āHe looked at him likeā¦ āYou think thatās a dog?ā Anyways, so a year later, Putin said, āWould you like to meet my dog?ā Laura and I were with Putin in this Dacha outside of Moscow and she said yeah, I would like to meet him.
āAnd out comes a giant hound kind of loping across the yard and Putin looks at me and says bigger, stronger, and faster than Barney. And you know, it speaks volumes when you listen to what somebody says. So, in other words, heās got a chip on his shoulder.
āAnd so yeah, I had a contentious relationship with him and I think whoever the president is, is going to find out that Putin will push and push and push until someone stands up to him.ā
Elen then asked: āSo Trump should get a houndā, to which Bush responded: āNot bad.ā
