Christina Aguilera returns with new song ‘Accelerate’ but queer Twitter isn’t sure

Christina Aguilera’s back with a new single, its accompanying video and she has a new album out in June.

The single, titled “Accelerate,” is Xtina’s first new music in six years. Her last album, Lotus, was released in 2012.

The Kanye West-produced track features Ty Dolla $ign and 2 Chainz and was announced a day ago.

The “Dirrty” singer’s new album, Liberation, will be released next month.

The new single has polarised the singer’s fans, with saying they love it, while others were disappointed by the comeback track.

Liberation drops on June 15 and promises 11 tracks heavily inspired by hip hop and R&B.

“To me, there’s nothing like an amazing hip-hop beat,” Aguilera told Billboard.

“When you strip back the words ‘pop star’ and the many things that I’ve done, singing soulfully is where my core, my root and my heart really is. And as you can see, it’s what I’m inspired by,” she said.

Aguilera told Billboard she had freed herself from expectations and was not worried about Liberation being on top of the charts.

However, she thinks the audience might feel a connection to the album theme of longing for freedom.

“So many different marches and people voicing their opinions and feeling OK to talk about things for the first time,” said the singer.

Reflecting on the release of one of her earlier works, Stripped, the singer felt it was “super label-driven.” She said, “And as great as it looks on the outside, I’m such a truth girl that if I’m not happy with something, I just can’t do it anymore.”

In a rare move, Liberation will feature a duet with Demi Lovato.

It’s been 17 years since Aguilera has worked with another female artist. The last time being her famous “Lady Marmalade” collaboration with Pink, Mya and Lil’ Kim in 2001.

I remember being at her concert and singing facing the crowd instead of the stage, knowing that that was exactly what I wanted to do in life,” Lovato said, expressing her love for Aguilera.

Aguilera should announce a tour soon after the release of Liberation, but it’s a prospect Aguilera dreads.

“Touring is so frightening to me, because I am a mom first,” she told Billboard.

“It’s easy to get comfortable and cushy in the same place and not have to worry about uprooting your kids. I’ve been putting myself on the back burner.”

Since her last album, Lotus, Aguilera has appeared as a coach on the US version of The Voice.
