Can I play Assassin’s Creed Odyssey on Nintendo Switch?

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is the latest instalment in the hugely successful Assassin’s Creed series.

The game’s release on October 5 marks the eleventh major title in the series and takes place during the Peloponnesian War of the 5th Century BC.

Players will be able to enjoy a wider range of role-playing scenarios, with branching side-quests and greater interaction with non-playable characters that brings the series closer in feel to the open world environment of the Grand Theft Auto series.

The title has already had strong reviews, with an average score of 85 on the review aggregator site Metacritic.

What platforms will Assassin’s Creed Odyssey be available on?

The game is scheduled for a large roll-out across numerous platforms, with Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Windows all signed up for the latest Assassin’s title.

If you’re a Nintendo devotee, then there’s particularly interesting news concerning Ubisoft’s arrangements for the Switch.

Can I play Assassin’s Creed Odyssey on Nintendo Switch?

The simple answer is: yes, if you’re based in Japan.

After a successful trial of their cloud-based release strategy for Resident Evil 7: Biohazard—where Nintendo users paid to rent and stream the game over a network—the same option will be made available for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. However, for now, that option is only being offered to the Japanese market.

This doesn’t mean that the same cloud-based streaming option won’t come to Switch users worldwide, eventually. The more successful these forays into the rent-to-play market prove to be, the more likely that Nintendo may decide to expand its current offering.
