Caitlyn Jenner donates thousands of dollars to LGBT+ charities supporting trans people
Caitlyn Jenner has made donations worth more than $50,000 to four LGBT+ charities in Arizona.
The charitable contributions are the latest philanthropic activity of the former athlete and reality TV star-turned advocate, who set up the Caitlyn Jenner Foundation 18 months ago.
“I had a great time today distributing four grants to extremely deserving organizations in the Phoenix area. I am blessed to be a part of this community,” Jenner wrote on Twitter on Friday (November 2).
According to USA Today‘s AZ Central news outlet, a $20,000 grant was awarded to Phoenix’s Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS towards their programme called Transgender Resource and Navigation Service (TRANS), which aims to help transgender and gender non-conforming people to better navigate the health system, and to better access services such as hormone therapy.
Another $20,000 were given to GLSEN Phoenix, an organisation working to ensure safe and affirming schools for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning (LGBTQ) students, while the volunteer group Arizona Trans Youth and Parent Organization, AZTYPO, was awarded $15,000 to continue supporting transgender children and their families—work which for which GLSEN Phoenix recently awarded the organisation a Phoenix Ally Award.
An undisclosed amount also went to Mulligan’s Manor, a Phoenix-area group home dedicated to at-risk gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, and heterosexual adolescents 12 to 17 years old.
“I want to concentrate on this next generation coming up, the ones that are 5 to 15 to 20 years old, this next generation coming up to make it easier for them. Don’t put all of these challenges out in front of them. Make it more normal,” Jenner told Fox10 Phoenix.
Jenner, who said in a recent interview to Paper magazine said the transgender community was “the most misunderstood and the most underfunded” of the LGBT+ spectrum, was accompanied to Arizona by Sophia Hutchins, who is the foundation’s executive director.
Hutchins, long rumoured to be dating Jenner, recently clarified that the two do not have a “romantic relationships,” but that they “share a life together.”
“We’re partners in everything we do, we’re inseparable, we’re business partners, we live together, we share a dog, we share family, we share a life together,” she said in an interview on The Hidden Truth with Jim Breslo in October, adding: “I would not use the word ‘girlfriend,’ I would not use the word ‘dating.’ We’re partners.”
Jenner, a longtime Republican, finally renounced her support for President Donald Trump and launched a stinging attack on his administration’s policies towards transgender people in an opinion piece published on The Washington Post on October 25.
