Piers Morgan somehow managed to turn a conversation about coronavirus self-isolation into a joke about Phillip Schofield coming out as gay.

Morgan appeared on ITV’s Good Morning Britain on Monday, March 23, with his usual co-host Susanna Reid, although she had to appear via webcam because she was self-isolating at home.

They discussed the coronavirus pandemic with Dr Hilary Jones and UK health secretary Matt Hancock, before Schofield and Holly Willoughby joined them to talk about what was coming up on their own show, This Morning.

Morgan, who has launched various attacks on trans and non-binary people on his show, encouraged viewers to take social distancing seriously, and said that anyone who ignored his advice was a “moron”.

He then, bizarrely, took the conversation as an opportunity to make light of Schofield over his coming out last month.

He said: “And Phil for you, weird right? You’ve come out and everyone has gone in.”

Luckily Schofield was not offended by the joke and laughed along. He even added: “I’ve got to say, I’ve just gave him that line.”

Morgan has already faced criticism for sharing an alleged text exchange he had with Schofield after his public coming out in his Mail on Sunday column, somehow making one of the biggest days of Schofield’s life about himself.

Legendary TV presenter Phillip Schofield came out as gay last month.

This Morning host Phillip Schofield came out as gay on February 7, 2020.

He took to Instagram to announce that, during his almost 27 year marriage to Stephanie Lowe, he has struggled with coming to terms with his sexual identity.

He wrote: “With the strength and support of my wife and daughters, I have been coming to terms with the fact that I am gay… Every day on This Morning, I sit in awe of those we meet who have been brave and open in confronting their truth – so now it’s my turn to share mine.”
