Doctor Who set for its first openly gay incarnation of The Doctor
Doctor Who is officially in search for a new actor to play The Doctor.
Peter Capaldi announced he’s stepping down from the role after taking the part back in 2013.
Now the show is on the hunt for its 13th incarnation of The Doctor.
Out gay actor Ben Whishaw is now the bookies’ favourite to take over the role.
Whishaw would become the very first gay actor to taken on the iconic role.
It’s not the first time he’s been rumoured the role – he was the favourite last time, also, when Peter Capaldi took the part.
Since then he’s been in a number of major roles, including a stint on James Bond.
On stepping down, Capaldi said: “One of the greatest privileges of being Doctor Who is to see the world at its best”.
“From our brilliant crew and creative team working for the best broadcaster on the planet, to the viewers and fans whose endless creativity, generosity and inclusiveness points to a brighter future ahead.
“I can’t thank everyone enough. It’s been cosmic.”
