Jim Parsons to play God on Broadway
Out actor Jim Parsons is set to play the role of God on Broadway.
The Big Bang Theory star – who came out in 2012 – is thought to be the highest-paid gay actor in Hollywood, after signing a contract extension on the sitcom.
Parsons has been cast as the Almighty in new stage play ‘An Act of God’, which will open in May.
The play is based on ‘The Last Testament: A Memoir by God’, by David Javerbaum – who runs a famous comedy ‘God’ Twitter account.
God described the show in a statement as a 90-minute conversation in which I will reveal the mysteries of the Bible and answer some of the greatest existential questions that plague mankind.
“I chose Jim to play Me because I relish the irony of telling the real story of the Six Days of Creation through the star of “The Big Bang Theory.”
“Plus, he’s funny. The theatre was also chosen for ironic reasons, as Studio 54 – up to this point – has been the single most God-less place in the universe.
“And as for our director, Joe Mantello, that was not ironic. I’ve been a fan of his since Wicked!”
God said: “I don’t judge people based on colour, race, religion, sexuality, or gender…I judge people on whether or not they’re an asshole.”
