It’s official: Jesus is gay
One of the main characters on The Walking Dead has come out as gay.
Paul Rovia, played by Tom Payne and better known to the post-apocalyptic band of survivors as Jesus, joined the series last season.
But he has only now made his sexuality clear, and in so doing becomes the third out gay character currently on the show.
Jesus is gay in the original comic book series, which had led fans to question his sexuality ever since the character was written into the programme a year ago.
He confirmed his sexuality during last night’s episode, called “The Other Side,” in which he shares an emotional moment with fellow Hilltop Colony member Maggie.
He tells her: “For the first time, I feel like I belong.
“When I was first here, I was never here. I always found it hard getting close to anyone – neighbours, friends…boyfriends.“
The Emmy Award-winning show, which is now in its seventh season, has featured six LGBT characters throughout its run.
Hopefully Jesus won’t join some of the rest of them on the show’s long list of casualties.
The programme’s popularity, which also earned it a Golden Globe nomination, has spawned a sister show, Fear the Walking Dead, which began in 2015.
