Tomi Lahren blithely compares Capitol riots to Black Lives Matter protests. She was told exactly where to go
Fox News host Tomi Lahren has likened the Capitol riots to anti-racist protests that took place in the summer of 2020, and people are having none of it.
Lahren – who once said Joe Biden “might as well carry a purse” because of his decision to wear a face mask – is facing strident backlash on social media after she waded into the discussion surrounding the Capitol riots, which saw a violent mob of Trump-supporting white supremacists storm government buildings in Washington DC on Wednesday (6 January).
Four people died in the riots, and Trump has been widely condemned for encouraging his mob of supporters to march to the Capitol.
While much of the world watched the United States in horror as the foundations of democracy began to crumble, Lahren weighed in on Twitter by comparing the events to Black Lives Matter protests.
While Wednesday’s Capitol riots came about as a result of Trump’s baseless claims of election fraud, the Black Lives Matter protests of 2020 occurred following the brutal killing of George Floyd, a Black man who tragically died after a white police officer knelt on his neck for several minutes.
It’s not hard to see that the two events are completely different – but that didn’t stop Lahren, an ardent Trump supporter, from trying to compare them.
Tami Lahren compared Capitol riots to Black Lives Matter protests.
“I am very disappointed in the acts of destruction/lawlessness at the Capitol today but for liberals to act like they are suddenly so appalled and disgusted by chaos and protest is the biggest load of BS,” she wrote.
“Y’all loved this kind of thing (and worse) all summer. Save your crocodile tears!”
Lahren quickly faced backlash from many Twitter users, who were quick to point out that Black people fighting for racial justice was not comparable to a group of white supremacists storming government buildings in an attempt to subvert the democratic process.
Numerous Twitter users responded to her tasteless comments by sharing a screenshot of a tweet she shared on 3 November, election day.
In that tweet, Lahren said that if Donald Trump were to lose the election – which she insisted would not happen – that his supporters would “go to work tomorrow just as we do everyday”.
“When Biden loses, his ‘supporters’ will likely loot and riot. Tells you everything you need to know!” she tweeted at the time – prompting many to point out that her comments did not age well.
Many others waded into the discussion to tear Lahren’s argument to shreds.
protesting for the civil rights of African Americans due to a sea of unlawful murders vs. protesting in support of a conspiracy theory that supports the notion an election was “stolen” based off NO evidence is quite a big difference. https://t.co/RS9XvvO7cG

Saying black people are human beings is the same as doing a coup for fascism. https://t.co/pR44pubL2x— finder of something to do (@rileyherrring) January 7, 2021

there’s a huge difference between protesting for your life & your rights and “protesting” because you’re a sore loser twizzler. https://t.co/CMEyjc3H7G pic.twitter.com/Odq6bZkg6N— b 🇵🇸 (@brendaleealvaa) January 7, 2021

The United States descended into chaos on Wednesday (6 January) as Congress met to officially count the Electoral College votes of the 50 states and Washington DC – a formality that normally goes by without incident.
But proceedings were interrupted by an extremist mob, made up of Trump supporters, who stormed the Capitol. Members of Congress were evacuated and the certification process suspended while Washington DC police clashed with violent rioters, resulting in a shoot-out in at least one of the Capitol’s two chambers. Four people died.
Congress finally reconvened shortly after 8pm local time (1am UK time) after a curfew was imposed in Washington DC and certified Biden’s victory.
