Lindsay Lohan went viral when she shared heartwarming, empowering words with a young bisexual woman thinking of coming out to her parents – but it wasn’t long before the experience turned sour.
TikTok user Alana, username @shhlana, is bisexual, and was looking for a unique way to come out to her parents. She decided to have a scroll through the celebrities on Cameo, a platform where people can pay famous faces to record personalised messages.
Lindsay Lohan was among the celebrities on the platform, and Alana – who grew up watching her films – knew what to do. She put in the request, asking Lohan to record a video for her parents explaining that she is bisexual.
But Lohan declined to come out on Alana’s behalf. Instead, she recorded a heartfelt message in which she urged Alana to come out to her parents herself.
“Hi Alana, it’s Lindsay Lohan,” the Mean Girls star said. “I know that you are about to take a very big step in telling your parents who you truly are and what you want them to accept of you, and I think that you should do it yourself.
“I think that coming from you, you’ll feel a lot of power and strength, and it’s important that you are who you truly are and that you love yourself and you can live by that, and tell your parents that and I promise you they will understand.
“I’m sending you lots of love, all the love in the world, and strength and support, and God bless you, stay true to yourself, you’re truly beautiful. God speed, lots of love and good luck,” she concluded.
Lindsay Lohan ‘coming out’ video went viral on TikTok.
Alana shared the clip on TikTok and it quickly went viral, leading to media coverage praising Lohan for her kind and encouraging words to a young queer fan.
But the fantasy didn’t last long. Speaking to Variety on Tuesday (26 January), Alana revealed that she subsequently received a message from the Lindsay Lohan Cameo account asking her to remove the video.
“Hi!” the message from Lohan’s Cameo account read. “Just wanted to ask if you could take the Cameo down because it was private for your use only.”

Alana said she was “confused” when Lohan asked her to remove the video. She ultimately decided to leave it up after Cameo confirmed that she is entitled to do as she pleases with the clip.
The UC Berkley student told Variety: “My initial reaction was, ‘I know there are so many people out there who need to hear this message, who are also struggling whether or not to come out – whether or not to be true to themselves.’ I didn’t think it was gonna blow up – whoever saw it, that was enough for me.”
As the video went viral on Monday (25 January), Alana realised that she was going to have to come out to her parents before they saw the news stories circulating about Lohan’s Cameo.
Thankfully, her parents took the news well, Alana told her followers in an update on TikTok.
“I was not expecting E! News to make an article, I found out while I was in class and there’s already some posts on Twitter with my video, so yeah, I did end up telling my parents because I didn’t want them to find out on the internet,” she explained.
“And they took it well, so that’s good. I’m feeling really relieved. Thank you all so, so much for the kind words and support.”
