Actress Julia Garner has reportedly been offered the coveted role of Madonna in the Queen of Pop’s highly-anticipated upcoming biopic.

And it is believed that Ozark star and Inventing Anna actress Garner will accept the part, an insider told Variety.

Produced by Universal Pictures and directed by Madonna herself, the film will follow her early career through to her metamorphosis into a bona fide legend.

Many A-list names have been rumoured to take on the coveted role, such as Euphoria star Alexa Demie, Florence Pugh and Odessa Young. Singers like Bebe Rexha and Sky Ferreira have also been in the conversation.

However, Garner appears to have beaten them all out, including Madonna’s own daughter Lourdes Leon, who was at one point pegged to play her mother.

It was claimed by The Hollywood Reporter that the audition process was “gruelling” with 11-hour bootcamps including choreography sessions with Madonna’s own choreographer and singing lessons with the original Material Girl herself.

But it seems after many months searching for the perfect actress, Julia Garner is the last one standing.

Fans were quick to take to Twitter to react to the news that Garner would helm the Madonna biopic and the reactions were mostly positive. People agreed that Garner was more than capable of taking on the part.

One fan said: “Julia is a monster in the acting department. She is going to kill this role.”

Author Abdi Nazemian said: “Aaaaaaaaah from day one I’ve said Julia Garner is THEE choice. She looks like Madonna and has her spirit. LET’S GOOOOO.”

Podcaster Rose Dommu made a hilarious suggestion regarding the intense audition bootcamps, joking: “Now who will play Julia garner in the limited series about the Madonna boot camp.”

However, there was a resounding cry from Alexa Demie fans who felt she was robbed.

Even editor-at-large for them, Michael Cuby, said: “JUSTICE FOR ALEXA DEMIE!!!!!!!!!”

Despite the mixed reactions, the film will be an excellent opportunity to honour the icon that is Madonna and to introduce her to a whole new generation of fans.
