Kristen Stewart will transform into Princess Diana for a new film, Spencer.
Stewart has been cast as Diana in the newly-announced biopic by director Pablo Larraín, who also helmed the Natalie Portman-starring Jackie.
“Kristen is one of the great actors around today,” Larraín told Variety.
“To do this well, you need something very important in film, which is mystery. Kristen can be many things, and she can be very mysterious and very fragile an ultimately very strong as well, which is what we need.”

Spencer will cover a single weekend in the 1990s, when Princess Diana made the decision to leave her husband, Prince Charles.
Sadly, this narrow focus means we’ll be robbed of seeing Kristen Stewart recreate Diana’s most iconically camp moment – when she visited the Royal Vauxhall Tavern in drag with Freddie Mercury.
Despite this absolutely heinous omission, the film promises to show Stewart’s versatility as an actor.
“The way she responded to the script and how she is approaching the character, it’s very beautiful to see,” said Larraín.
“I think she’s going to do something stunning and intriguing at the same time. She is this force of nature.”
Spencer is expected to begin production in early 2021.
Kristen Stewart ‘could have been a Marvel star’ if she’d hidden her sexuality.
Stewart has, in recent years, focused on indie films, but made her blockbuster comeback in 2019’s Charlie’s Angels.
As the film was released, the actor opened up about the challenges that come with being a queer woman in film.
“I have fully been told, ‘If you just like do yourself a favour, and don’t go out holding your girlfriend’s hand in public, you might get a Marvel movie,’” she told Harper’s Bazaar.
Over the years the actor has faced intense media attention on her sexuality and her relationships with both women and men (she has been linked to Stella Maxwell, St Vincent and, famously, Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson).
She said that having initially struggled with the attention, she learned to live with it.
“I think I just wanted to enjoy my life,” she explained.
“And that took precedence over protecting my life, because in protecting it, I was ruining it.”
